Non-Immigrant Visas
US-VISIT
The US-VISIT program is overseen by the Department of Homeland Security. It enhances the security of U.S. citizens and visitors to the country, facilitates legitimate travel and trade, ensures the integrity of the U.S. immigration system, and protects the privacy of visitors to the U.S.
US-VISIT is part of a continuum of security measures that begins overseas and continues through a visitor's arrival in and departure from the United States. It incorporates eligibility determinations made by both the Departments of Homeland Security and State.
The program helps demonstrate that the U.S. remains a welcoming nation with open doors and secure borders for the benefit of U.S. citizens and visitors alike.
How the program works
Biometrics (digital fingerscans and photographs) are taken at the time of interview at the Consular Section and checked against a database of known criminals and suspected terrorists. When the visitor arrives at the port of entry, the same biometrics are used to verify that the individual issued a visa is the same person who enters the United States.
As at the Consular Section, the Department of Homeland Security will take digital fingerscans and photographs of visitors to the United States as part of the normal process of interviewing individuals seeking to gain entry into the U.S.
