Notarial Services

Notarial services are provided for U.S. citizens and for individuals of any nationality requiring notarization of documents to be used in the United States, the most common requests include notarizing powers of attorney and affidavits. A consular officer is available to process notarials during normal ACS hours: 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Saturday through Wednesday.

The Embassy cannot certify or authenticate state documents such as birth certificates, drivers' licenses, or divorce decrees. Nor can the Embassy provide or certify official translations of documents.

What you'll need to bring with you

For us to notarize your documents, you must:

  • Have government-issued photo ID. A valid passport is best.
  • You must understand your document, as we are not allowed to explain the contents to you.
  • You must have filled in the document with the appropriate names, places and dates (but don't sign it; you'll sign it at the Embassy in front of a consular officer).
  • You must pay the fee, in US dollars or the Algerian dinar equivalent (see below).
  • If your document requires witnesses in addition to the notary, you must supply these witnesses. Our staff cannot serve as witnesses.
