PAS, in conjunction with the Algerian Muslim Scouts, sponsored an Interfaith Dialogue Contest for Algerian high school students. More than 60 students entered by writing essays in English, French, or Arabic about the role, nature, and goals of interfaith dialogue in the modern world. Students based their essays on news items, history, and personal experience. The jury comprised of local journalists, a member of the Muslim Scouts, a prominent Algerian lawyer, and the former Secretary General of the Red Crescent. On December 3, 2011, Ambassador Henry Ensher hosted a reception in honor of the top three contestants. Ambassador Ensher welcomed the winners, civil society representatives, and members of the media to his residence. All three winners will have their essays published in area newspapers and receive one year of English language classes. The first place winner also took home a laptop.
