U.S. Ambassador Richard W. Erdman and Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika toured the U.S. Pavilion for the 38th Annual International Trade Fair, which took place June 1 – 9, 2005. Forty-two American exhibitors representing 44 different companies in a variety of sectors participated in the trade fair, making it the largest American exhibition to date.
U.S.-Algerian economic ties are dynamic, as the United States became Algeria’s largest trading partner in 2004, with a doubling of U.S. exports to Algeria and a 60% overall growth rate in total two-way trade over 2003. Department of Commerce Assistant Secretary William H. Lash III’s attendance at the fair underscored the United States Government’s commitment to strengthening commercial ties between our two nations and our support of American businesses in the country, including those both long-established as well as new entrants into the Algerian market.
